You move on to Go Fish! It’s a card game for everyone! With endless variations, players of all ages can get in on the fun. So grab some cards and get ready to go fish!
What is Go Fish and how do you play it
Go Fish is a card game usually played by two to six players. The game can be played with regular playing cards, but there are also special Go Fish decks that have pictures instead of numbers on the cards. The object of the game is to collect as many “books” of cards as possible, where a book is a set of four cards with the same rank (for example, four queens).
The dealer deals out the entire deck of cards to all of the players, face down. Each player then looks at their cards and tries to form books. For example, if a player has two 9s, they would look for another 9 to complete their book. Once a player has a complete book, they set it aside and do not look at those cards again for the rest of the game.
The different types of cards and what they mean
There are four suits in a standard deck of playing cards: spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs. Each suit has 13 ranks: Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen and King. In Go Fish, the Ace is considered to be worth 1 point, 2s through 10s are worth face value, and Jacks, Queens and Kings are each worth 10 points. The Joker is a special card that can be used in place of any other card in the deck. Jokers are wild cards and can be used to complete a book of any rank.
how many cards do you get in go fish
In Go Fish, each player is dealt a hand of 7 cards. The dealer then sets the remaining cards aside, face down. These cards are the “stock” or “draw” pile.
To begin their turn, the player must choose any one opponent and ask them if they have any cards of a certain rank. For example, if the player has two 4s, they might ask an opponent if they have any other 4s. The opponent then either gives the player the requested cards, if they have them, or says “Go fish!”
If the player asked for a rank that their opponent does not have, they must “go fish” by taking a card from the stock pile. If the card they draw is the rank they asked for, they show it to their opponent and get another turn. If not, play passes to the next player.
How to win at Go Fish
The game ends when all 13 ranks have been completed, meaning that there are no more cards left in the stock pile and all players have empty hands. The player with the most books at the end of the game is the winner!
Tips for beginners who are just starting out
Here are some tips for beginner Go Fish players:
- Pay attention to the ranks of the cards that have been played. This will give you an idea of what ranks are still in the game and which ones have already been completed.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for a rank that you don’t have. Remember, you can always go fish if your opponent doesn’t have the card you’re looking for.
- Try to collect as many books as possible. The more books you have, the better your chances of winning.
- Go Fish is a game of chance, so sometimes you’ll just get lucky and draw the card you need. But don’t worry, the more you play, the better you’ll get!
